We recently spent a night in Wisdom Montana and it unexpectedly got down to 14 deg F. I was a bit concerned about the water system and the lithium battery but everything worked fine. The Alde system kept us warm and the water system did not freeze, even though it was below freezing most of the night. No busted fittings and the pump worked fine.
I was also concerned about charging the lithium battery through the 7-pin connector as we started out. The Victron Smart Sense is programmed to disable solar charging at 32 deg F but there is no cutoff for the 7-pin (yet). However, considering that the truck will only provide about 5 amps or so, I decided to hook up and go. I know the common thought is to not charge lithium batteries if the temp is below freezing, but if you dig deeper most manufacturers say you can charge at a slow rate, like 0.1C, or 10% of rated capacity. We have a 100 ahr battery, so theoretically we could charge at 10 amps without damage.
I wouldn’t want to make a habit of this, but if the temp drops below freezing we seem to be fine at least for a while. I’m not sure how this might compare with other models and years but our 2021 320S Boondock handled the conditions fine.
