I just replaced the crank with if I remember a 1/2” bolt. Just pop off the top cover for access. I think it was a 6” bolt. I cut off the thread. Then I drilled a small hole in it to match the crank handle. If you are not good with tools. Ask a friend or neighbor. Good luck

  If you routinely use chlorinated city water sanitizing should not be needed. If you use an unknown source or well water some sort of sanitation should be considered. IMHO
