I just replaced the crank with if I remember a 1/2” bolt. Just pop off the top cover for access. I think it was a 6” bolt. I cut off the thread. Then I drilled a small hole in it to match the crank handle. If you are not good with tools. Ask a friend or neighbor. Good luck

  Those vents on the front are exhaust vents for carbon monoxide. Be very careful when considering any modifications to them.

  I don't believe it has a shelf life. If it did it would certainly be more than a year.
