I just replaced the crank with if I remember a 1/2” bolt. Just pop off the top cover for access. I think it was a 6” bolt. I cut off the thread. Then I drilled a small hole in it to match the crank handle. If you are not good with tools. Ask a friend or neighbor. Good luck

  Question doesn’t the strut hold the door open? That should be it’s function. Why does the awning up or down make a difference. I must be missing something.

  It really depends on how long and how badly it was neglected. With decent care and maintenance your Tab could be used for decades.
