PSA - Check you Alde Tank Lid

Was doing a little spring maintenance and took the cover off my Alde tank compartment and found a puddle of coolant and signs of frequent leaking. Upon checking the lid I found the lid was only screwed on a few turns and the sloshing going down the road caused it to leak from the lid often. Tightened it snug and added to list to recheck.

The Adle Tank Cap/Lid not fitting well is a common issue.  This suggested method to tighten the Cap/Lid has worked for many of us:

. . . Adding a tight turn or two of electrical tape to the neck threads of the reservoir can tighten the fit of the reservoir cap if it is loose. . . . .

While 'plumbers' Teflon tape should do the job,
the advantage of 'electrical' tape is that it will last far, far longer.

Every time you remove the Cap/Lid when plumbers tape is used you will have to install new tape (plus remove the damaged old tape) . . not so with heavier electrical tape.

@schwartzki, Also, remember....the tape is not there to 'seal' the threads.  The tape just removes the 'sloppy' fit between the neck and the cap.  Sealing is done by the rubber disc.  So, I agree with MuttonChops, electrical tape would be the better solution.

Thanks for the feedback, it did seem quite sloppy till it was basically tight.

It looks like your lid consists of a white plastic knurled screw ring that is open in the middle, a white flat plastic disc, and a black flat rubber washer ring.  It appears that the black rubber washer is on top of the white plastic disc.  If so, have you tried putting the black rubber washer underneath the white plastic disc instead of on top of it?  Seems to me that would seal better and may be how it was designed to be used.

@ BrianZ - Good catch.  Yes, the black rubber disc shoul be below the white plastic.
