Black Canyon heated tank performance?

xdrxdr Member Posts: 279
We have a 2024 400 Black Canyon on order and are curious as to the lower temp range that the heated tank would keep the tank from freezing? I imagine it would be fairly low (10-15 degrees) but not sure. We camp a lot in the high country in the SW and are looking to extend our camping window into late winter/late fall as well. We do this now, but with our 2021 winterized.
Thanks!

We're looking for this info also. Has anyone tried the Nucamp-installed holding tank heaters in cold weather, say mid-20s or colder? What's your experience?

Nice choice on the Black Canyon! From what I've experienced, the heated tanks on these rigs typically keep the water from freezing down to around 20°F (-6°C). If you're camping in the high country where it gets colder, you might want to consider extra insulation or a portable tank heater just to be sure. I’ve had to do that on my setup for those really chilly nights.

    Random Thoughts.

A]  I have seen the typical tank Heating Pad taped onto waste/water tanks of other brand trailers.
Nothing fancy and I've never come across any "protects to" statement much-less data.

B]  Now it is freezing outside, you are at a electric service CG so you have the heaters on 24/7.
What happens when you leave the CG?
Guess you better dump those tanks no matter how 'near empty' they are otherwise there will
be plumbing freezing issues as you head down the highway at 60+MPH.  After all, the 12VDC
load of those heaters has got to be as bad or worse then a (battery) deadly 3-way Fridge on DCV.

Now I'm no fan of using dump stations in the snow/rain/cold of snow zone states as it makes an easy task far more difficult . . . . So for me the Tank Heaters are an extra cost feature I won't use.  As my 'have no heaters' snow zone travels of using bottled fresh water and a 50/50 mix of anti-freeze for manual toilet flushing has worked 100% fine for several birdsnow trips.

    Just an Opinion. ;)
