Jensen JWM22 Performance

We’ve been suffering for years now with the overall poor performance (especially Bluetooth non-connectivity) of the Jensen in our 2020 400. Believe Nucamp has been using the Jensen JWM22 for about 5 years now and looking for insight into how that model has been performing. Contemplating replacing the original with the JWM22. Know about the mechanical and user interface differences. Just trying to understand how well the 22 performs.

Any "double din" car stereo of recent vintage will outperform any of the Jensen units. The Jensens have always been pretty sketchy with bluetooth, streaming, waking up randomly in the middle of the night, hard to dim, etc.

To answer your specific question the 22 does seem to connect just fine with Bluetooth. It shows up on my phone and I connect pretty quick. But @pthomas745 is right that they are just moderate quality. If buying something new I would look for another brand. I had to put a kill switch in because of parasitic draw and annoying screen glow, and it has features I don't need or want. The audio quality is decent IMO, not amazing but not garbage. Radio reception just fair. (My stock speakers are surprisingly ok, but I'm not sure what they are.)

Do the aftermarket stereos interface with the TV like the Jensen does? It’s not clear to me how they are connected. HDMI?

@Horigan. Personally I’ve never used the HDMI output from the Jensen over to the TV. I’d think the only reason you’d use that HDMI output would be if you’re playing a DVD. If I want to play a video I simply use my phone (or IPad) connected to the TV via an adapter into the TV HDMI input. I won’t be looking for CD/DVD capability in my Jensen replacement. There are aftermarket units that do have that CD/DVD if that’s what you want.

IMO most of the problems you name (bluetooth, streaming, waking up randomly in the middle of the night, hard to dim, etc.) are because people can't be bothered to read the manual.

Dear Marcelino, read the manuals, followed others suggestions and radio still comes on randomly. Perhaps your reading comprehension is better than mine ! Please share your wisdom for disabling power to thru instructions from manual for 2025 Jensen

I had that problem with my Jensen Radio turning on randomly. I turned off Bluetooth in the Basic Operations under the Systems Menu. I still had the problem. Then I went to the Bluetooth Operation and found more than one device was paired to my radio. I deleted (unpaired) each device. Problem went away, no more unscheduled operation. Later I paired my iPhone (the only device now) to my radio. I haven’t experienced the radio randomly turning on. I didn’t try a factory reset because those two steps cleared it up.

    HaHa 🤣

Maybe a generational or 'comfort level' situation.
I play a bunch of DVD's when traveling all using the HDMI for sound & video.
One can even set the Jensen and TV volume at different levels . . .

All this Cellphone connection/download stuff is over my head.
I was 100% ok with a 'cell' that did text only and flipped open like a Star Trek communicator.

I actually find the Jensen in our 2025 320 to be fine for what it is. Since the television is not a smart device, I plug our Roku stick into the front HDMI port of the Jensen and the sticks USB-C into the port right beside it for power. Radio reception seems to be fine and sound quality acceptable. My only issue is that I haven't been able to get the Roku stick remote to control the volume yet. I'm sure I just haven't found the correct code.
