Atwood connection to Safe-T-Alert 85 left over parts?

When replacing the Atwood for the Safe-T-Alert series 85, the wires from the Atwood have a black ground (which I cut close to the Atwood) and two red wires merged into one via a blue 16-14 butt splice. The single extension had a black twist (-y) connector thingy with a 1 amp fuse inside and the part to the trailer had the other black twisty thingy that screwed in holding the fuse. Now inside the the black thingy, the single red wire had a crimped copper-colored little metal conductor (of sorts).

So the question is whether or not that black twisty thingy with the 1 amp fuse is necessary to the 85 series operation and connection to the trailer or may I just cut off some red wires attached to the Atwood and splice the 85 together with the red wires (including the black grounding wire) without concern for left-over twisty thingy and just use the butt splice instead? May I leave out the fuse, the copper crimped whatchamajigger or ???

Thanks for any advice on helping.

What year is your trailer? Some photos will really help. I know the Atwoods were in the trailers until just a few years ago. This is the section of the Safe-T manual that discusses the install.

Picture below of my 2017: the Atwood has the two positive (red) wires going to the "blue" splice, where they are joined together and go to the fuse. I'm not seeing the "extra black thingy", so I'm not sure what that extra part might be. Another splice?

So, send us a picture of what things look like after the fuse holder.

Hi, and thank you for your response. With the 85 replacement, is it vital to have the fuse in place and connect the original wiring from the tab to the former Atwood to the newer 85 unit before powering the CO2 monitor up? If going off-grid and the wiring is connected to the battery, then is the fuse still necessary and important? Will the original red/black wiring work with the newer 85 unit?
