DIY remote temperature sensor

Hello all,

I wanted to share my new DIY remote temperature sensor. I want to travel with my cats but, of course, I am concerned about the inside temperature during the summer. There are a few commercial options for remote temp sensing but they either require a cellphone service plan or wifi. I don't want to pay another monthly fee and wifi is pretty much never available unless you are at a campground (which I never am). So I came up with a standalone wireless solution. No service plans, no wifi and in my testing it has a range of almost a kilometer, depending on the terrain and LOS obstructions.

Attached are pictures of the sensor which I just velcro to the wall. It is powered by an internal 9V battery on an external USB3 cable. The handheld receiver has a little screen that displays the temp, humidity and heat index. The system updates every 5 seconds.

In testing, it has worked great but I have not put it to actual use yet. I will update once I do. If anyone is interested in making one, I would be happy to share the details.
