2026 TAB 400 Boondock Black Canyon Tub Weight Distribution
2026 TAB 400 Boondock Black Canyon – Weight Distribution Hitch?
I’m picking up a 2026 nuCamp TAB 400 Boondock Black Canyon and I’m trying to figure out the best weight distribution hitch solution.
Because of the new front storage tub and the shorter tongue, it doesn’t allow for the standard setup to fit properly. I’ve looked everywhere online, spoken to a few dealers, and honestly no one seems to have a clear answer—especially here in Canada.
Has anyone successfully installed a weight distribution hitch on a 2026 TAB 400 Black Canyon? If so:
● Which hitch did you end up using?
● Did you need any special brackets or modifications?
● How has it performed while towing?
● Most importantly, does anyone have pictures of their setup?
Any advice or photos would be greatly appreciated. It seems like there aren’t many real-world examples out there yet, and I’d love to see what others have done before making a decision.
Thanks in advance!
Guy

Sorry I don't have any specific recommendations but ideally: None. Obviously that depends somewhat on your tow vehicle, if the TV is a softly sprung mid-size SUV/crossover you might need one but with a half-ton pickup you won't. The trailer is only 3900 lbs GVWR and less than 500 lbs tongue weight so at least truck manufacturers do not recommend a WDH. Check the owners manual of your TV.
If you decide you need one make sure it is designed for a lightweight trailer. The run-of-the mill WDH sold at RV dealers and parts stores are typically designed for 1000 lbs tongue weight which will make the driving experience "interesting".

Thanks Grumpy G,
My TV is a 2023 4Runner and tongue weight is at the top end. I’d be looking for a 5-600 pound max lightweight hitch.
Big issue is the front tub being so large we can’t mount the bracket.

Understood. There are a few manufacturers (e.g. Curt, Reese, Blue Ox) that have bolt-on hangers as opposed to the common clamp on style. Maybe that works.

Hi,
Have you looked at the Anderson WDH. It needs a minimum of about 25” from the center of ball to bracket mount.
This WDH is very easy and quick to put on. It also includes a friction cone to help with sway.
Their customer service is usually quick and helpful if you have questions.
We use the Anderson on our setup up and like it a lot for performance and ease of use.

We looked into using WD after purchasing our 2019 400 BDL and discovering that the tongue weight was 460 lb. (due to the Cool Cat A/C unit mounted far forward in the driver's sidewall). The Anderson hitch was the only one that checked all of the boxes in terms of fit for the 400 tongue (they make brackets specifically to accomodate smaller trailers/different a-frame lengths). And, the Anderson is entirely made in the U.S.A.—very important to us.
Ultimately, we decided that we would not need WD. We went with a Curt Rockerball on a 5" drop shank, which leaves our rig perfectly level when attached to our F-150 and our trailer fully loaded. To prevent sway we use a Curt friction sway control, and we have taken the T@B on two lengthy trips (one 6000 miles, the other 3000) with absolutely no problems. The driveability has been excellent and the friction control has held any sway to almost nil.
FWIW.
