Air fryer

I am thinking about taking an air fryer for our next trip. It’s a week long and I see lots of rain, so cooking outside may be difficult. I am hesitant about plugging it and blowing a breaker or otherwise damaging anything. The appliance is 1500W. I’ll be on shore power. The fridge will be on electricity too but I could switch it to propane if needed. I’ve been reading other posts and it should be within limits. I won’t be plugging anything else. Has anyone used an air fryer? Should I just plug it on the AC or fridge outlet to be safe?

1500 watts on a 110 v circuit is about 13 amps. As a comparison, the Alde on the "2KW' setting uses about 15.8 amps. As long as your trailer is plugged into a circuit rated at 20 amps or greater, your air fryer will, in theory, work. If you are on a 30 amp campground circuit, you do have some extra room for more "appliances".

The issue will be the rating of the GFCI outlets in the trailer, and how they might handle the surge of power that an air fryer might want. Anything that "makes heat" can be an issue for the GFCI outlets. Hair dryers these days are now rated at practically the maximum that a 15 amp home circuit can provide (about 1800 watts) and I know we have seen reports of the GFCI outlet tripping on that level of needed power.

I don't even own an air fryer so this is a purely academic exercise 😀… If the trailer is connected to a proper 30A outlet the air fryer should work just fine on a regular outlet in the trailer, just make sure there is no other high wattage device turned on at the same time (toaster, coffee maker). The AC, fridge, Alde are on separate branches with separate breakers. If the trailer is connected to a household style 16 or 20 amp outlet via an adapter you may need to turn off the Alde or the fridge to not trip the breaker in the campground connection box.

BTW remember the windows are polycarbonate so keep the air fryer away if it generates a lot of heat.

@pthomas745 @Grumpy_G thank you both, I will keep everything in mind. Good comment on the windows. I will try to plug it directly to the campground pedestal if there is an appropriate outlet.
I did buy some extra fuses just in case though.

I have a Ninja air fryer, and use my bluettie 300 to power it. It draws 1800 watts/approximately 18 amps, and is too much to put on any of the circuits due to the 14 gauge wiring used. Other than that, I am hooked up to power with the RV, but wouldn't risk overloading the wiring with the air fryer.

The two biggest energy hogs on 30-amp shore power are the Dometic air conditioner/heat pump, and the microwave. It’s possible if you ran your air fryer with one or both of those devices running, it would trip your 30 amp circuit. It’s also possible that your air fryer would run fine. To be safe, I generally turn off the AC/HP and microwave when running high energy devices like an electric kettle, a hair dryer, or a flat iron (the latter two only applying for my spouse 😎). I would put an air fryer in the same category.

If the power does go out, go outside and reset your 30 amp circuit breaker at the park pedestal. That solves the problem most of the time. I had to do that a week ago on my current trip.

@Binghi we do not have a microwave and the AC won’t be running…….getting cool up in the northeast. I will reset the breakers if we need to. Thanks 😊

I have just noticed that the only outlet that has a reset button is the one next to the breaker, under the bench. Would that one be better to plug in the air fryer?

The GFCI protects all outlets downstream of it so it doesn't matter where the air fryer is connected in the branch.
