Brake Controller

Trying to trouble shoot and hoping others may have some feedback.

I recently moved my battery to a box 12 inches left of its previous location. No wiring was adjusted and everything is working as expected in the trailer. I hooked up my TV and my Redraw now flashes red. I disconnected everything and went through different sequences of actions taking when hooking up (Hook up 7 pin, start car, turn off battery disconnect) The only time it turns blue and seems to work as intended is when the TV is started and then the 7 pin is plugged and then the battery is switched on. This was never an issue prior to moving the battery. Did I inadvertently mess with something in my update? I will be transitioning to a lithium battery shortly but want to make sure I did not create a problem prior to doing so. Battery is now located in the black box on the right in the photo.

    Confused here:

    • Is Redraw an auto-correct of Redarc?
    • Normally Redarc controllers use the Blue LED to indicate a system issue, not ready to use.

Details on your Brake Controller; make, model name, model number if available would be helpful.

Since the issue started after you moved the trailer Battery.
Consider rechecking everything you loosened, moved, reconnected. The change in required Controller Start-up procedure may have been caused by a poor (dirty, loose) wiring connection you touched or otherwise disturbed.

    Hi,

On a recent trip, our Redarc began to flash red and was not functional.

I cleaned the brass tabs in both 7 pin connectors and the issue went away. May want to try a good cleaning and see if that helps. Maybe it's not related to your battery work.

Various commercial cleaners are available and use a small brush or q-tip.

OP, It’s not clear what your normal procedure is, but you need to have the battery switch on while towing so you trailer emergency brakes function should the trailer separate from the tow vehicle.

Yes, the autocorrect got me again. It is Redarc.

The brake controller is a Tow-pro Liberty. Per instructions I have found the solid blue is ready to use or normal. The flashing red may signify a grounding issue. I retightened the battery connections (these were the only ones I removed, cabling remained intact).

I am going to follow Yoshi's advise and try to clean the PINs.

Thank you Horigan. Switch is in the on position for towing. It just seems that I have to have a procedure to set up right now in order for the Redarc to not flash red.
