Towing a 400 with a Tesla model Y?

We got our T@g XL in 2019, and had a great adventure towing it all over the Southwest with our Tesla Model 3. We have since traded up for a Model Y, and we would like something with a bathroom. I really love the 320, but I am just way too tall to be comfortable in it. The 360 is great, but the tongue weight is over our limit. Someone on another forum told me they were pulling a 400 with a Model Y with no problem, which I found hard to believe.

The Tesla has gross weight limit of 3500, with a 350 lb tongue weight. Safety is a priority for us, so we aren’t looking to push the envelope. You guys have a lot of experience, so I would love to hear your thoughts, experiences, and crackpot theories.

Thank you!

I think you've answered your own question. I haven't towed with the new gen Model Y but I am pretty familiar with it (very slick product despite the CEO). I have towed a 360 across the country with a vehicle that has the same rated capacity (3500/350, albeit a 6 cyl. gas Toyota). You can move the trailer but its not what I considered a comfortable experience. You are pushing the envelope, no two ways about it. Obviously the higher profile camper would also kill your range. When we got our 360 I said "no way will I ever buy a vehicle just to pull a camper." I'm glad I changed my mind and upgraded to a TV that has a 6400 lb rating and integrated tow features - the difference is night and day, zero stress while towing. So maybe if you want to run up the road to the state park a couple times a year you'd be just fine - but if you want to roam far and wide, through the mountains, maybe boondock a bit… I don't think the Model Y is going to be the right TV. You'd need a rivian, Lightning or god forbid a cybertruck (please no). Happy Wandering

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, swapping out my tow vehicle is not an option at this time. I love NuCamp products, but it sounds like I may have to look elsewhere for my next trailer ;-(

By the way, as I was perusing the form here I learned something new. Apparently the Ultimate Toys version of the 320 is a foot wider than normal? I did not know that! If that’s true, that could be an option worth exploring.

    Thanks again…

I'm not familiar with that design but you should check it out. Others may have different opinions about the tow capacity so take my input as one data point. Of course you could try to rent, and make a test trip….
