Hi from Parksville on Vancouver Island! We have just purchased a new-to-us 2005 T@B L towed by a Dodge Dakota. Looking forward to camping and meeting other T@B owners. Perhaps Island people might be interested in getting together? We are retired, in our mid 60's and we enjoy hiking, cycling, kayaking and skiing.

    Hi Chris,

We like to explore quite a few places on the Island plus some of the Gulf Islands. Some of our favourites are:

1.We wai kai - on Quadra Island. We've been going there for more than 20 years and love being able to stay so close to the Beach.
2.Gorge Harbour Marina Resort - on Cortes. It has trailer/camping sites and the harbour is great for kayaking.
3.Descanso Bay Regional Park - on Gabriola. It's a Regional District Campground and is another great place for kayaking.

We have inflatable kayaks which fit nicely into the back of our pickup. We try to use the BC Ferries Experience Card as much as possible when traveling to quite a few of the Islands. It means a savings of up to 40% on some routes and it's too bad it can't be used on the Major Routes. We are very soon heading into the Interior and Alberta and to take the T@B on the ferry it's going to cost us over $150 one way - ouch - I can see why the tourism operators are crying foul when BC Ferries keeps on upping its rates.

The Gulf Islands are my favorite places to visit...Thanks for all the recommendations ! That is just what we needed….we recently boondocked at Ford's Marina on Hornby Island and they have some small but sweet camping spots near the ocean. You need to bring your own water as it is very sulfury and in short supply…agree about the Experience card….waiting for Phil to retire so we can go off season but a fall gathering of islanders would be nice  :)
