T@B coming soon!

Hooray! My camper trailer is shipping now and I have towing questions. What do I need to tow it? What size engine is best? I’m thinking about getting a Volvo C60 but is that strong enough? Exactly what kind if hitch and light plug does my vehicle need? Any help or suggestions are much appreciated.

@catiyagainor, look in the  Tires/body/brakes/axles/towing category on the left and you'll find many discussions about tow vehicles. You'll need 7 pin wiring to operate all your lights and charge your 400 battery while driving. The hitch will depend on the difference of heights of your tow vehicle and your 400 to tow fairly level.  If you're considering getting a vehicle to tow with, the best choice would be one with the factory tow package. I'm hoping some Volvo owners will chime in with their expertise. And the other 400 owners too! Congratulations!

It seems people tow with everything from a four cylinder Subaru to eight and ten cylinder trucks. Basically they use what they own or personally like. For easier towing for driver and vehicle, I would look to a six cylinder with tow package that includes engine oil cooler and transmission cooler. Some people like turbo chargers for extra power or diesels for power and economy. Here is a thread about towing and mileage.

This link takes you to tow vehicle guides. I found it helpful earlier this year when I was looking.  http://www.trailerlife.com/trailer-towing-guides/

Today is my T@b's first birthday, and when bought it I knew only what I read on these forums about hitches/controllers/7 pins, chains, framistans.....etc.  I was lucky: my dealer in Phoenix (Tom's Camperland) were totally pros about the whole thing.  They answered all my questions and explained what they would be doing for my brake controller install, etc.

In essence, this is a real test of a good dealer, I think.

My suggestion is see what your dealer has to say about the hitch and associated equipment for whatever tow vehicle you choose.  Then come back here and ask questions, too.
