More detailed information on which Tacoma model, year, and features is really needed.

Does 'new' mean a yr-2019 ?  All 2019's that have the V6 and Automatic transmission include the factory tow package . . . engine/transmission/power steering coolers, 7-pin, and receiver.

If your 2019 has a 4-cyl or manual transmission then the 'can it tow' discussion will be about more than just fluid coolers.

Well, our Taco came without the tow package, I added a hitch, wiring harness for the 7pin, and it tows our Tab fine.

It's a 4cyl, manual transmission, so we have no overheating problems.

There are a bunch of threads in this forum where people talk about their Tacomas in various configurations, and their tow-worthyness. Try searching "Tacoma".

My personal opinion is that the cost of the towing package is low compared to the longevity you will gain by protecting the Tacoma’s engine with the added coolers. I have over 61,000 miles on my 2015 Tacoma (over 3/4 of those miles towing a Teardrop, the T@B S Max and now the 400).

I have the oil changed and tires rotated every 5,000 miles (as recommended by Toyota) and she is running well (knock on wood). I replaced 3 of the tires at around 60,000 miles (one was replaced at about 52,000 due to a screw in the “cannot repair area of the outer tread”). I will have the brakes replaced soon......

I expect my Tacoma to last over 200,000 miles, which will mean 3 more sets of tires and brakes....a small price to pay for the enjoyment of camping every day.

If you are not of the mind set 'must be a Toyota' suggest you look at the GM twins; Canyon & Colorado.

I researched and test drove new 2017 Tacoma and the GM Twins and purchased a Colorado which was a much nicer features and driving vehicle.  30% of my total mileage has been towing a 320 S and I'm very happy with the choice . . . and I was a Ford man for four trucks over 30-years . . .

I also have a 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport. It has the factory tow package.  My advise like Verna is to get the factory tow package.  It is well worth the money and the peace of mind knowing you have the options you need to pull well and make your truck last 200,000+ miles.  I also added a scan gauge to monitor my trans and water temps.  Is also gives me mileage!  Good luck!

We purchased a 2018 Toyota Highlander to tow our 320 CS S.  We were able to purchase new with tow package but the dealer had to change the brake controller from 4 to 7 prongs.  So far seems to tow fine.  My husband did a lot of research on Consumer reports first.  The Highlander we purchased is not AWD.

I'm impressed you towed up the long, steep Del Valle hill for your first outing!
