FOUND: Mod to lock side windows open (2 position click style circa 2013ish)

I found a solution driven by suggestion from @Marceline - a very sturdy double window lock. This enables those of us with windows that click into place to a) lock them into place where they click and b) gives us an infinite range of window openings versus just the two we have now. The only improvement I can think of is if the screws were shorter, but I can always see if ACE Hardware has options if the length bothers me. They can stay in place (secured to upper strut only) and the window closes, which is really awesome. One per window works well, two per window is what I'm going to use because I prefer symmetry.

Hi All,
I can’t figure this out so need ideas from everyone.

Have a 2013 T@B with side windows that push out and have two positions where they stay open. To close, you have to push open further past the detent and then it closes. This is normal operation.

I would like a mod that “locks” the window at either position. Have been in windy conditions where I was worried about them blowing open. Also when I sleep in hotter weather would like to leave them open but prevent casual opening from outside. Or from a dog nose being able to push windows open.

I believe later years have a different mechanism/strut but in looking at photos it doesn’t look retrofitable - but I could be mistaken.

Thanks in advance for ideas!
Jill

Why don’t you give Elsie a quick call and ask if you can swap new latches with your original ones. I love my two position latches! :)

Just called, as I suspected, they are totally different and cannot be interchanged.

I don't have immediate access to my trailer so I can't check for myself. But is there anywhere to clamp one of these thumbscrew locks onto the strut that would prevent further opening?

Hmm, I have one of those but it would need two, one needs to clamp on either strut (they fit inside each other). But I found this one that has two of them and keys you can remove. Have ordered on Amazon, will know tomorrow. Thanks for idea!

Do you mean what I ordered to test or my window struts?

Do you think one/two of these would work to help keep the front window open..?

@TerryV6 I don’t have a front window to see the strut but if you post a photo I could offer an opinion. Amazon has an excellent return policy so you could always try it out, low risk.

Well, the front struts on my Tab are not the fixed positional ones.  Rather the outer sleeve has the inner piston go out from it.  I cannot see any place to attach one unless I put it near the end, in which case the window will be in a mostly open position.  (Most times our locking knob will hold the spot for you if tightened enough, so it is not something that has to be added, )

The clip would go between the black knob and the fastened end..
