Anyone made their own VISOR?

Wondering if anyone has made their own visor? Instructions/patterns? I know there are patterns & instructions out there for the little awnings that can go on each window, but I'm thinking of the visor, not the full blown Pahaque tent.

Dory Hill Designs on Etsy makes the visor, but I'm not aware of a member who does.John, Judi, Guinness & OD in PDX

I used the “DIY T@B XL Visor” pattern (roughly) that @Marceline linked with an old tent pole that was closer to 19 than 20 feet, with outdoor fabric on sale at Joann’s that wasn’t quite wide enough (48” or 52” maybe) so I sewed it together in thirds. It was a quick project and I like it. One thing I added - a few weeks later - was some liquid tent seam sealer along those seams, as they leaked like crazy during a rain storm. It worked much better the next time.

Here is one that used fiberglass tent poles and heavy outdoor fabric. I like how they crossed the poles to make the visor “tent”.

@elbereth--since you sewed yours in thirds from fabric that was not 60" wide, how did you do your layout for cutting of the fabric to get that curve correct on all three pieces please?2018 Tab 400

@lkc001, I “winged” it. Basically left the middle third as a straight line, and for the outer thirds, cut a curve that was quarter-circle-ish from the top to the side. By the time you fold the outside edge in to make a “pocket” for the pole you’re getting irregular gathers because your inner circumference is a bit shorter than your outer edge, if that makes any sense. Someone more prefectionistic might think about making darts symmetrically or something. I just kinda tucked and stitched

I like how your awning has it’s own little gutter system!Sharon / 2017 T@B CSS / 2015 Toyota Sienna Minivan / Westlake, Ohio

@elbreth Ok I understand a little better, so did you cut the middle section first from the middle section of your fabric and then go back & lay down your extra fabric and cut the quarter-circle-ish pieces on each side so that you could get the two sides @ the same size? Hope that question made sense. I'm trying to picture it in my mind:)2018 Tab 400

@lkc001, yes, I cut that 5 yard length of fabric into 3, 5 foot pieces. One of those pieces became the middle. The other two had an arc cut into one side (the “left” side of one piece and the “right” side of the other - you could put them face-to-face and cut together if you wanted to). Then I sewed each of the outside “arc” pieces to the middle rectangle shaped piece. So then I had a long, baseball-cap-visor shaped piece of fabric. Then I folded under the curved outside edge and sewed to make a pocket about 2” wide for the tent pole. Then sewed the Keder tape to the straight edge.2018 T@B CS-S Towed by 2015 Subaru Outback 2.5i in the wilds of Minnesota

@elbereth will do— it probably will be awhile before I get to the visor but at least I’ll know what to do. I’m going through all my camping gear & purging lots because there is much less storage room in this trailer & I don’t need all the stuff! As I’m purging I’m stocking my Tab & have rearranged stuff at least twice already! 😂 it’s like tetris. I’m also going to set up the two double beds when my mom goes with me so have to do that mod. I want to make the window awnings first. A lot of stuff to do!2018 Tab 400
