BDL Tub Mod: Rear Screen

Here’s my low-tech mod to place a backing screen on our 400’s aluminum tub. I started with a 4’ piece of 16” wide wire shelving from Home Depot. I cut down the length and then an opening for the back of the propane rack and one to pass the propane connection through. No need to attach it in any way; it can’t move or fall out. Materials: $11.76, time: about 20 minutes.

Sweet I love that!

I did the same, but mounted it on the outside of the tub. There is no need to cut for the propane tank if the screen is mounted on the outside. I did copy the idea from TNOutback though.

Looks great. I have a 2019 that didn't come with the strut. Do you think you could look at the strut for a part number and measure it end to end? Maybe also the position of the brackets? It might be a common part that we can source.

@JeffroNC
The strut is part #56004267 (about $15.00)
You will also need the mounting brackets
Part #s 56004268 and part #56004269 (about $3.00 each)
Prices depend on which dealer you order from. some dealers will add a 50% to a 100% markup. Shipping from nuCamp will run about $10 or so depending on your location.
It is an easy install. You just need to measure carefully to ensure you get it aligned properly. -
Thanks for the idea! Made one out of 1/4” plexiglass.

@davidden
Make sure you leave some vent holes near the bottom in case you have a propane leak. -
@falcon1970 There’s a cut out for the hose and the whole back behind the tank is open. It has to be given that the ring around the tank is welded to the metal opening in back.

@davidden
Sorry, I thought you had sealed the back of the box with the 1/4" plexiglass, Since propane is heavier than air you could collect a lot of propane va -
Yeah, it’s not sealed at all.

It's not as robust, but I used this to keep things (chocks, etc) from falling out the back.

@Marceline, I almost bought that, but I didn't have a good way to cut it. Looks nice.
