Lug Nut Covers?

Hey guys! I have been doing looking and haven't seen much on this so sorry if it is a repeat. Our Tab 400 has aluminum lug covers. It looks like they crack if you try to tighten the lugs with them on. Anyone else seen this? Wondering what the trick is to take them off or if they are supposed to stay on.

Replaced the ones on our 320S with solid ones from an auto parts store.

When we had our 2013 T@B U model (320) the lug nuts had a stainless cover shell.  It was discussed to not destroy the cover to use a deep socket 6 point and not the 12 point socket.  That will help prevent the damage to the outer shell on the lug nuts.  Still use it today on our 400.
