What is purpose of the clear plastic tape on the trailer below the windows?

A question that I had when checking my rig. A couple of mine got wrinkled and damaged. Easy to fix see the discussion here:

The protective film is there simply to prevent the windows (when closed) from scuffing the trailers finish.

Thanks order some clear film that was recommended in the discussion to fix.
