Turning Exterior SAE Plug Into Exterior Power Port

I can’t find the post but I know that port can be used as an exterior power port vs. a solar charging port. Is it simply a matter of plugging a 12v device with an SAE connector into it? Don’t those wires run directly to the battery?

    Yes the wires run directly to the battery (at least on mine) so you might want to add an inline fuse if you want to use it as an output. 20A should be fine for a 200W load or a 200W solar panel if you want to use the port for solar charging as well.

    You just need a SAE to 12V port cable.  And an inverter to plug into the 12V port end of the plug.  Or, if the device you are trying to run is a small USB powered device, a simple plug in USB plug into the 12V plug of the cable.

    Correct wiring is a big issue with these cables.  The one in this photo "seems" wrong.  The positive side of the plug on the trailer is (or should be) the part of the cable that is "inside" the plastic on the cable. 
    I had SAE cables and 12V port cables, just crimped them together and have my own home made plug. 
    Anyway: just make sure you get the wiring correct from the trailer to your 12V port. A multimeter is your friend.

    Thabks for the info. I’m looking at running a 12v cooler from that outlet (putting the cooler in the truck bed).
