T@B S Bed Conversion

What size piece of plywood has anyone used to replace the folding table as the bedding support. Thought I might not use the indoor table, leave the bed made up permanently and utilize the extra storage space where the table legs would usually be.

We use five pieces of 1" X 6" Poplar cut to the width of the span. (You will need some sort of 'support rails' added to each bench if you do not already have such) They fit neatly under the bench cushions when not in use. You can search 'bed slats' or similar wording and find quite a bit of information on this topic. Very ingenious folks on this forum! Oh...and we just gave our measurements to Menards and they cut them for us)Kelly & Roy ~ Wyoming

I should clarify..the 1 x 6 'slats' fit under the cushions when not in use...the 'support rails' are permanently attched to the benches.Kelly & Roy ~ Wyoming

Jimbo, I used 1x6 tongue and groove to give it more strength. I believe the measurements were 29 1/4 length. I only use 4 because I wanted a little more floor space. As RK said, support rails were 1x2" fastened with 8- 2 1/2 inch wood screws.

We use eight 1"x4"cedar slats bought on Amazon and cut to size by my hubby. When we put up the bedding, they are stored under one of the seats. Our t@b came with pole table which we completely dismantled (stored at home), such that the floor area is level, no base plate - easier to slide stuff under the bed for storage.2014 T@B S-Maxx with 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Turbo, Atlanta, GA.

Hi Jimbo, I used 4 1x6 pine boards cut to fit above the rails and spaced them over 1x2 tie boards spaced about 3/4 apart. I hinged 2 boards to the other 2 boards and added a 1x2 on the front bottom board for a lip. This allows the top to lay across the rails from side to side and then it can be folded in half and we use it as a small table on the rear cushion for a table to hold our meals. It doesn't take much room and I like having the space to walk around. Usually my wife and the dog set while we work at the counters or we watch the TV etc.

I don't know if this was the same one, but it seems to match the description given by Machack88. The same seller also offers 1x6 as described by atlasb.1x6 Select Western Red Cedar Lumber 4' board

I built a table from an IKEA hanging birch table (cut to same width as the space between the seats. I use this as a pedestal table for eating and use it as a privacy screen when not set up. There is a second length (same width as the space between the seats) that I store under the cushion to create a 32" platform bed. I like the additional screening of the living area offered.

All great ideas. I took the table out and put it in the basement. We attached two rails to each side of the bench seats and cut 1X4's pine (light weight) into 4 slats to go across the opening. We purchased a lightweight round plastic folding table and 2 chairs from Amazon and set this up as our dinning area just outside the T@B under our canopy using the inside as a "living room". The 4 slats store under the bench seat on the door side perfectly. We take these out and place slats on the rails and put down cushions. Back behind the rear seat we remove the rolled-up 2" queen memory foam topper and roll out over the lowered seat back and cushions. Throw down sheets and now a comfy bed for the night. Area under slats is perfect for the dog bed, food & water bowls.Sara & Mike/2020 AVIA #0066/Denver, CO
