Emergency Brake Socket - Does this look right?

I took a photo of the emergency brake (disconnect) socket as I wasn't sure how to insert the cable end. While it is working properly, does this look like the plastic was somehow damaged? melted? frozen? If so, what could have caused that?

The "key" will only go in one way, so that may be what you are seeing inside the slot, just the shape of the key inside. If the pin is pulled, and the battery switch is on, the battery is being drained at 6 amps.
