Procedure to hook up AGM batteries?

Got two fresh 6V AGMS, hooked them up in my 400 exactly as the previous ones were, with battery switch off, shore power unplugged, solar covered. Attached positive cable to battery 1, then jumper from battery 1 neg to battery 2 pos, but when I touch negative cable to battery 2 neg, there is a BIG spark. Too big. Does the inverter need to be cut off somehow? What is pulling all this power?

Thanks!

Sparks are normal.  "BIG" sparks that singe your hair off?  If you hesitate with the connector just hanging loosely around the battery terminal, they will spark a bit.  As pointed out in your other thread, just confirm your wiring is correct.

Thanks @pthomas745; I will try again today. I also should have just stuck with the other thread so feel free to pull this one.

    Hi,

Hooking up a battery with an inverter in the circuit can produce a larger than "normal" spark than attaching the cables with no inverter.  The capacitors in the inverter if not drained, hold a charge which results in a large spark.  There are easy ways to precharge your inverter to reduce or minimize the spark, either with a resistor, incandescent light bulb and  even a pencil will work. The bigger the inverter the bigger the spark.  Your fine with the size inverter in TABS..just be prepared.     Inverter has a Spark with Battery Connection - YouTube

@Yoshi_TAB I had read yesterday on an Airstream forum about the inverter capacitor surge, but didn't want to get into trial-and-error with my camper.

BUT THE PENCIL WORKED! Thank all of you. :-)
