Towing Equipment Recommendations (First Timer)

Hello all,

I'm shopping for a used '22/'23 Tab 400 Boondock.

I'll be using a 2024 Honda Ridgeline with factory tow package (2" receiver, 7-pin connector, upgraded ATF cooler).  I'll be installing a Tekonsha P3 in the next few days.

I'm seeking recommendations on the equipment that goes between the vehicle and trailer.  I'll be doing some long hauls and I want the safest and most stable setup.  Price is not really an issue, I'm looking for quality components.

    A trailer hitch with a 2" ball.

    Wise guy answer I know, but before going all out spending money try to gain some experience what works and what doesn't. A simple hitch and ball may be sufficient, the only unknown being the required ball height. The trailer should be level to slightly nose down when hitched up and the tow vehicle loaded for travel. There are height adjustable hitches at various price points that can aid the learning curve. While I own one, I also have fixed height hitch for the T@b because it's lighter. 
    Do not go straight to a weight distributing hitch with fancy sway control unless it's really needed (which I doubt with a new Ridgeline). WDH make the rear axle less compliant, and the Ridgeline has trailer sway control programmed into the ESC.

    Great points.  I will definitely see how things go without a WDH and take it from there. 

    My height to top of receiver is 19”, and I’ve read that the Tab 400 Boondock is level at around 21”. Taking into account the 1” of sag from tongue weight, I think I’ll need about 3” of rise. 

    I was considering an adjustable B&W with 5” of rise. Perhaps that is overkill. Then again, I prefer to spend a little more for something that lasts.

    A tow bar anti-rattle clamp is very helpful.  Makes for a quieter/smoother experience.
