Southern Oregon Coast--Recommendations

Hello fellow Tab'ers!  My wife and I are planning a trip to the southern oregon coast (somewhere between gold beach and coos bay) end of the month in our teardrop.  We are looking for recommendations of nice campgrounds with hook-ups on or near the ocean to stay for several nights.  We would love to hear your experience!  Cheers!  Jordan

    Bullards Bar or Sunset Bay State Parks come to mind, haven't been farther South. Given that it's high season it's going to be slim pickings though.

    We stay at The Mill Casino in North Bend/Coos Bay for a yearly event over Memorial Day. This year was our 10th visit, the last 4 or 5 with the Tab. Full hookups, nice, clean sites and not too far a drive from the very crowded beaches. Coquille tribal police watch the area, so it's safe and quiet.  Our favorite dinner restaurant in the area is Lord Bennett in Bandon. It's a yearly must stop for us. Also in North Bend is the Pancake Mill, a great breakfast joint. After Coos Bay, we always head north up US-101. Umpqua Lighthouse SP is just north in Reedsport and 30 minutes north of there is Jessie M. Honeyman State Park just south of Florence. While not on the beach, it's close and Florence is a wonderful town to visit. We visit other state parks and lighthouses on the way up to Astoria, but that's probably out of your trip's range. Oregon State Parks are beautiful and many offer water and electric at a minimum.

    We did this trip 5 years ago and I'd recommend you get reservations for EVERY night well in advance -  we did't and spent a few nights in parking lots

    My wife and I just returned from our trip last week in our 400 up the southern Oregon coast.  If you are coming from northern California on 101, Elk Prairie Campground at Prairie Creek State Park was awesome.  Once we got into Oregon we spent 3 nights at Humbug Mountain State Park which had a few nice trails including one to the beach but was close to the highway.  We then spent 3 nights at Sunset Beach State Park SW of Coos Bay.  The campground was full due to two loops closed for the season but there are great trails, access to the beaches, and a beautiful and rugged coast very close by. 

    Like others have said, reservations may be required although there were a few empty spots (no shows?) at the campgrounds.

    correction:  Sunset Bay State Park, not Sunset Beach.  sorry...
