Hitch drop distance

Hello. In figuring out my preferred ball position, how do I want the trailer to ride? If level, the drop from my ‘22 Outback Wilderness hitch looks like it’s going to have to be 4-5 inches. What do folks think?

Level to a little nose down for safe towing. Don’t forget to take the back of your tow vehicle sagging into account. If it’s much more than an inch, airbags or a weight distribution hitch may be needed. Airbags will be enough to level the ride if the squat is not too bad, but for anything over two inches I’d consider the WDH.

For WDH you’re talking about the amount of vehicle squat when I load the hitch w trailer weight, correct?

Yes. The concern is blinding folks with elevated headlights and reduced load on the front axle that may reduce controllability.Rich2019 T@b 400
