I GO WHERE I'M TOWED TO

My used 2010 Rascal did not come with one either.  If you can't get one from the store you can do what I did - ordered one from "Do It Yourself Lettering" - http://doityourselflettering.com/

cost me $16.87 including tax and shipping.   Would have been less but I ordered it a little too big - I used 3" high letters which are too big - should have used 2" letters. I did make a slight grammatical change and left off the final "to"

Yep, it is technically grammatically incorrect (can't end a sentence with a preposition) as ingrained in me by my now deceased mother.  For 4+ decades, hearing this has given me "instant willies" when spoken aloud.   Guess what, I got over it enough to allow it to remain on my LG Silver Shadow for as long as I owned it.  I think there is something to be said for appreciating underlying sentiment sometimes over rules. Bottom line; it is cute just like all the teardrops to which the phrase is affixed. Right?

Yes!  That grammatical error almost had me removing it from my SS.  It drove me nuts.

PXL, as one of those advertising, brand writing types, I have to say I love the phrase in all of its grammatical incorrectness. It gives the T@b more of a playful, voice..."Whee, I go where I'm towed to"  versus sounding like it is resistant: "Dang, I go where I'm towed."

Yep, these are the things I think about when I am pulling.  

The addition of the 'to' at the end of a sentence or phrase is a common feature in Newfoundland English dialect, among others. Common usage/examples included "where do you work to?" or "where did you take your holidays to?". My new T@b arrives tomorrow, and the slogan will have some asking if they are made locally!?!

Here is how we corrected the error.

Well, since you're correcting errors, "Here are our new decals."

"I go where I'm towed to" is one of those idiomatic expressions that is perfectly fine and not meant to be "correct."  If it were a sentence in a formal paper or presentation, the "to" would, of course, be dropped.  PXLated, you can tell your pro-writing friends that an old English teacher said so.

Relax folks, it's a total myth that you shouldn't end a sentence with a preposition.  I know they told us that,but it simply isn't true...unless you are using Latin, apparently.   I heard this recently and because I have been torturing sentences for a lifetime trying not to end them "incorrectly' I immediately "googled" it.   Sure enough, it's a myth.  So end your sentences the way you want to.  And take your T@B where it is towed to.

Most web discussions of this issue seem to indicate that if you could leave off the preposition and it wouldn't change the meaning, you should leave it off.    I would concur.
What additional information is conveyed in the  "I go where I'm towed to" version?  Doesn't seem to add any logical information over  "I go where I'm towed."  While there are situations where ending with a preposition, this doesn't seem to be one of them.  I agree with PXLated.  (fortunately, my DM doesn't have the decal).  

I suppose it's a regional thing.  I've heard similar expressions all my life and am totally comfortable with it.  As a matter of fact, I prefer it.  It has that certain je ne sais quoi.

Go back to Alaska and leave us wordsmiths alone :-)
