To be better prepared for winter here in the NW. I decided to insulate and inclose my fresh water and gray water holding tanks. The side rails lend themselves fairly well to the challenge. I used 1/2" foil backed rigid foam from HD. I lined the side rails and the bottom. Then I inclosed the the area between the rails and from the spare tire to the tongue with black corrogated plastic. I bought the plastic from a local RV repair shop. All in all it went quite well and I would do it again. Sorry pictures were very hard to show how it was done. Foam cost about $12. The plastic is very durable and used for this purpose but cost about $100. Plus some self taping screws and fender washers.

Why are you insulating the tanks? Without a heat source of either vented air from a furnace, such as in motorhomes, or heated tank pads. There will not be a heat absorbed through the floor of the T@B, as it is basically insulated. I see wires, so I assume you might have heating pads?

150 watts 30 feet 120 volt wire heat. It can be used on shore power or my 400 watt inverter.jdargis said:Why are you insulating the tanks? How long can you go on the inverter with what size battery?

I am installing a remote thermometer between the tanks to monitor temps so heat can be applied as needed. When in motion the TV can maintain the inverter. I carry 2 12 volt batteries plus a 2000 watt generator. I will also install a computer fan in the floor vent under the frig to take advantage of the heat generated by the frig. It vents into the under belly.

Sounds like you're rseariously eady for cold weather - Personally, after spending 60+years in MN winters - my goal is to avoid extremes in weather and/or temps :-)

We go south for a month or two in the winter. I just like to be ready for the unexpected coming and going. Mostly I just like tinkering with our T@B. I am always looking for the next project.
