AC fan

hello everyone, hope you’re enjoying your summer camping trips.
my question today is if anyone can hear the AC fan running. My switch doesn’t say which position is on or off but, no matter the position, I cannot hear anything running. And once I turn the AC on, it is so loud that I couldn’t possibly hear it even if it were running. The manual I have doesn’t even mention the AC fan.

Yes, you should be able to hear the AC Fan spinning when the AC itself is off.

Typical failure cause is a broken wire at the fan motor solder connections. These are small diameter wires with a rigid solder connection that breaks after years & miles of road travel.

I re-soldered my fan connections twice over three years. Finally replaced fan itself this past spring when the fan blades broke from the hub.

Function of AC Fan is to draw outside air into the window AC cabinet to improve AC heat exchange operation. Some owners have also completed additional DIY projects to increase the volume of air that fan can pull in.

Yes.

Don't forget AC Fan is 12VDC. So make sure other 12V items, like the lights, are working.

I took our camper to a repair service. It turns out the AC switch connects to nowhere. There is no fan in the AC cabinet. I don’t know if it was never there or if it was removed. No wonder why I couldn’t here anything 🙄

Maybe in someway you are lucky 😂, as that darn fan has caused me endless issues.
Have lost count of the number of times the wires broke at the motor then finally the fan 'hub' broke away from the drive {heat/age/stress from not being flat or vertical who knows}

Back in May I replaced it . . . the new fan lasted one month, one outing, then it's control board failed . . . another cheaper - less fancy fan on order now with the A/C sitting on the bench seat 😑

@MuttonChops that really sucks. I was thinking about putting in a new fan. How easy/difficult is to remove the AC unit? I see that the wood trim in the front has 2 screws but the AC plug/cord comes out on the side through a small hole. I cannot envision how the whole plug goes through that hole to remove the AC. Is that side of the cabinet removable? I also see neat caulking so I don’t want to mess it up.

Very Easy.

Remove the two screws holding the wood trim in place, remove trim.
Then look under the A/C - - - you will see the A/C "feet" are behind a short lip.
Lift the A/C Front while pulling it toward yourself to clear the lip.
120VAC cord is a standard ~6ft cord so you can place the A/C unit on a box or something on the passenger seat without even unplugging.
