Water and pump

Wondering a couple of things…..

  1. TAB 320CS, 2021. Dry camping, tank full. Turn pump on, then faucets to get pressure and water. Do I have to do that with the outdoor shower also? I never use that……
  2. I left the pump on after pressuring faucets on this last trip. Turns on when I turn on a faucet, off when I shut off a faucet. When water got low the pump turned on by itself so I shut it off so it wouldn't burn out. Is it supposed to do that? Leave pump on or off?

Thanks,

Dana

    1. I typically purge the air from the outdoor shower lines when de-winterizing. This allows the pump to pressurize the system faster.
    2. These water pumps have a pressure switch that shuts the pump off when the shutoff pressure is reached (generally around 40 psi). I generally leave the pump on when in the trailer and off when I leave in the trailer. If a leak occurs with the pressurized system it won't result in the pump pumping all the water out the leak. If the pump draws in air instead of water from a low tank, it can't pressurize the system to its shutoff pressure and will run continuously.

The Shurflo pump manual explains that the pumps are designed to run "dry". There are many stories that discuss a pump running for hours with no major ill effects.
