i like many of you have an expensive generator for use while camping and I don't want to "gift" the generator to a stranger. I've given this some thought so I bought a metal security guard to cover the handle (Honda generator), plan on using a heavy chain and sturdy lock and then I wondered, they can still cut the lock, chain if the are determined. So I bought a wireless motion detector. The sensor is recommended to be 3 ft high so I'll attach Velcro to it and the side of the T@B and the base unit will be inside the trailer.
if an animal walked by the sensor it wouldn't go off-unless it was a huge bear in which I won't bother- but if it's a two-legged variety they'll set the sensor off and I will jump up in the middle of the night and hopefully scare the pants off of a thief (mine will already be off since I'll be in bed).
Has anyone tried this security method?

I just use one of those 3/4 inch carbon fiber security cables. Secure it to one of the corner handles or the tongue. Figure they'd have to struggle enough trying to cut through that that they'd probably wake me up. Haven't figured out a good security method for the solar yet. It gets moved around and sits further out from the T@B. Have thought about a tamper alarm.

I'll keep the base unit inside the T@B and it will go off when the outside senses motion. I've tried it and it works...but will it work if thief is quick on his feet?

The way I've found myself thinking about this kind of thing is, if the 'bad guy' sees the difficulty and the time-consuming effort he'd need to grab something (out of my open truck bed, for example), he'd probably figure I'd be out of the trailer before he could do anything.

For all he knows, I'm a light sleeper, along with my dog, and who knows what weapons I might have (in his planning mind). I might be a highly trained assassin ex-Marine, er that is, Green Beret!

The more visibly difficult it'll be, the less chance that anyone would mess with it, is what I've figured.

When it's not running, you could cover it with a garbage bag so it's less visible/attractive.

An example is the expensive Progressive surge suppressor we use, sitting out there between the electric pedestal and the Tab. I put a drywall bucket over it. It'd be pretty easy to snatch, but I can't worry about it, or I'll never get any sleep!

Bottom line here is that you can do your absolute best to lock things down, chain them to whatever and try to keep honest people honest. But if someone wants your stuff bad enough they are going to figure out a way to get it!

That makes me think of treble hooks all over and surrounding the generator!
