Fresh Water Fill

When I connect to city water, does the water go through the fresh water tank and fill it or does the fresh water tank have to be filled separately?

The tank has to be filled separately.

Thanks Jeannie. I'm sure there is a good reason but I can't think of one....

There is a need for the pump to pump water from the fresh water tank. The city water uses the pressure from the city water to pump the water through the pipes, so you don't need a pump when using city water.Verna, Columbus, IN

I understand that the city water goes in under pressure and that the water in the fresh water tank needs to be pumped. Okay, why can't the city water on the way in (under pressure) fill the fresh water tank along the way just as the cold water, city or otherwise fills the hot water tank on the way?

newell - the pump is positioned between the tank and the city water connection. The pump only flows one way - back check valve? Here is a diagram.Sharon / 2017 T@B CSS / 2015 Toyota Sienna Minivan / Westlake, Ohio

Some RVs have this option. You could plumb it in if you really wanted to. Basically, there's a valve near the tank that will pass city water into your tank. I've only seen it on Class As.

Even if it were possible you'd want control over it. Otherwise the fresh water tank would get filled every time you hooked up to city water. That's 100 lbs of water you may not want to travel with.2015 T@B Max S (White/Silver) -> 2014 Ford Escape 2.0L (turbo, AWD, factory tow)

Yup, they're manual control.
It would sure make the winterizing / flushing process easier!

Good point TabberJohn, carrying 110 lbs. of water isn't always necessary.
