    There is a stainless hinge set that has a lock pin so you can either hinge them or remove them and when in the folded down position, lock them. Bought them on amazon for my Vanagon solar project a few years ago. Might work for your project.

    Thanks @Newfisher, but my project is done. :)  I quite like the braces and the wing nut makes for easy adjustment.  They fold flat against the end while traveling and were dirt cheap to make.
