It's possible to weld a 2-inch trailer hitch extender (7 to 9 inches long) on a piece of angle iron that is welded or bolted just in front of the Outback tub. Then you can mount an Allen three-bike hitch rack vertically in the extender. The beauty of this arrangement is that you can use the same rack mounted in your truck's hitch when you're leaving the Tab to take your bikes on an outing.

I thought the same thing. Was going to notch out part of cover to move it back a little.
