New Lagun Tabletop

Starting to make a new top for the Lagun table. The new one will be 7/8" wider and 3/4" longer. This will allow the table top to be used as a bed slat - hopefully eliminating the question of what to do with the table top when the bed is made up. And simplifying the process of making up and taking down the bed. We'll still need two slats - one in back and one in front of the table top - but storing them should also be simpler.

I'm using an edge-glued plank of Aspen as I couldn't find a suitable Birch or Maple plank. The next step will be to match the stain in the T@B. I'll test stain a wood sample. Right now I'm between Minwax Natural and Pickled Oak. Wondering if anyone has a suggestion for matching the stain.

    GibW - When I made my bed slats, I used poplar and put on three coats of polyurethane with no stain.  Matched perfectly.

    @GibW, I did the same as @Joe described. Looks like it was factory made. In between coats, I sanded with XXXX steel wool, and cleaned of with a tack cloth. Came out very nice. Let us know how it works for you, thanks. :)

    This mod was the first thing that came to mind about 30 seconds after stepping into a t@b for the first time. Nice work!
