We find the need to rock the Tab a little to get the coupler to seat. Once it is in the correct position, then it locks down or releases easily. If you are not level, it can also be a challenge.1 -

Yes. That's what a battery cut off switch is good for... (We love our large AGM battery. No storage worries.)3
