It actually does matter because the monitor won't see it if it is on the battery side. You want it on the trailer side. Here is another photo I found: -

I use the a clear elbow (where it goes into dump connection) and that fits perfectly into he pipe without going all of the way down in..The hose then just sits on top of that, battery, and propane. -
