All we had to do was add a 7 pin (with heavy gauge wire), a Curt Echo, a WDH and a backup camera. We have lots of room inside the rear hatch to carry all of our extra gear. We plan to add roof racks to carry our ebikes. We always empty the tanks before we tow and avoid all roads with greater than 1/2% inclines.
We did our first season with a 2014 Q5 and it's more than enough vehicle. The only issue is our choice of brake controller (Curt Echo) which has some connectivity and grabbiness issues, but for power and stopping the Q5 is plenty, even in high winds, hilly terrain, etc. That said, we recently got our hands on a new '22 X3…
