I recently bought a 2018 tab 400 and the seller generously threw in a bunch of ancillary equipment, including a Reese Brakeman controller. I've never used a timed controller before so I figured I'd hook it up and try it.
TV is a 2006 v8 tundra w/factory tow package (includes 7-pin wiring, transmission oil cooler, etc but no controller).
I'm not crazy about how this controller works. Even at slowest timing a gentle but several seconds long touch on the brakes will take the trailer brakes to full pressure. I feel like this is not the best way to apply the trailer brakes. I'm curious to hear other people's experience who use this type of controller. Wondering if I should spend a hundred bucks and get a proportional controller.

Believe you would be far more comfortable with proportional control.
If your TV had a 'factory built in' controller it would be proportional.
"Timed Brake Controller" is a cheap solution.
