7-Wire Inside Car

We were surprised that our new-to-us TV (2014 Outback) has the 7-wire installed inside the car, a cable on the drivers side of the rear cargo area, under the deck. How is that hooked to the trailer? Seems wrong to slam it in the gate.

We have the same car. We had the hitch and the wiring installed at  the Subaru dealership. Everything is neatly tucked away under the car. It sounds like someone took a shortcut with your installation??

Hans, I agree that it shouldn't be closed in the gate, especially if they installed the correct gauge wire for the charging circuit.

The 7 pin connector should include at least one pretty heavy wire, which runs up to your TV's battery, charges your Tab battery and powers the Tab 12v systems. It should be at least a #10ga. wire, if not #8. The ground wire for that charging circuit needs to be a heavy gauge also.

There might be a hole under the rear deck that you could feed the connector through. Look for a rubber plug plugging an access hole in the floor of the spare tire well in your Outback.
