Hack for bad air days

We have been in the smoke for weeks and DW’s allergies are giving her fits. Do you think I could find a plug in air purifier? Nope, all sold out.

I thought about how they were made and remembered the great big fan in our Tab 400.
I bought the best HVAC Filter they had at Ace and voila! (Not sure why i phone photo is upside down). (I fixed it. Sharon)
She says it is working and I notice she can breath at night.

@JeffroNC, have you cleaned the CoolCat A/C filter that is behind the seat front (on the other side of where you put the add on filter. For smoke particles you need a 2.5 micron filter. But glad what you added is helping. We had a week of
very bad smoke here in NorCal where the 2.5 micron particle level was at 150-200, where any level over 30 is bad.
You can also get a portable air cleaner that works on 12VDC, designed for vehicles, that will also remove the 2.5 micron particles.

Socal had the worst 2.5 particulate numbers since 1994 last week. (Not half as awful as the norther part of the state.) Despite my purifier, the thing that helped me the most was Sudafed!

@Denny16 Yes, I cleaned the original filter but I think this one is better. I am planning to upgrade the holder behind the panel to hold a home HVAC Filter.I would have bought any purifier that would fit in the camper to relieve my wife’s suffering but they were all sold out in the smoke belt.
Tomorrow we will be in greener air as we head To northern MN and over Lake Michigan. All of our stops are showing good air quality.2019 T@B 400 BDL 2017 F150 3.5L Ecoboost

I think upgrading the filter holder to accommodate a “real” air filter is a great idea. I would recommend allowing a little space (1 or 2 inches) between the wood grille and filter to make it more efficient. Right now my filter is tight against the wood so all return air is restricted to just the grooves.

@JCALD good point. I'll report back after I dig in to it. We are still on the road for about another month.2019 T@B 400 BDL 2017 F150 3.5L Ecoboost
