Ours has not broken, but I assume it will... chromed plastic. Not really the right quality. Plus, it would be much better if it just rotated in the z plane, instead of the y. It would be less likely to spray water all over the room and possibly me.
When ours breaks, I might try something like this. Not sure if it is too tall, but if it fits, it would probably be an improvement.
Also, I installed the faucet mentioned by by @ChrisFix on my kitchen sink. To me, it is a great improvement. But I think there may be better options for the bathroom sink. That faucet is designed to fold flat into the sink. The multiple pivots are not really needed for the bathroom sink.
@kteichert@Tabulating I'm supposed to receive a Dometic AC542 in a week - for my kitchen sink upgrade. I'll test fit it in the bathroom to see if it would fit there as well. So if you have time to wait, I'll pass that info on to you. Even though it is designed with pivots up/down and left/right, I think it would be a great bathroom replacement if it isn't too large. You'd pivot it out left or right to use, and it would at least be pointed downward instead of the surprise accidental spray to the chest.

@Tabulating I think you should go ahead and buy the replacement and see if it works for the good of the group! LOL But it looks like it will fit under the top post OK. As far as the Dometic AC542, has anybody tried tightening the swivel fittings to increase the friction. Mine is looser than I like on the horizontal axis.
I found a couple heavier faucets that seem like they will work for either bathroom or kitchen. I can see how to replace the kitchen one but the bathroom is all behind the whole sink unit- I assume I have to take the whole thing out? In which case I might just leave it out- thanks for that suggestion

Don't know if it would fit the bathroom sink, but I don't see any reason it wouldn't. Do you have the square of the round bathroom sink?
Check the last post of this thread for a laugh...and someone else who has the same broken spout.
