Current rating of usb outlets

I cant seem to find the specs on the usb outlets...I know they are 5 volts but what about the current rating?

Depends on the specs, but unless otherwise specified, assume 0.5 Amps for basic USB type A.

For charging, I had to replace our rear USB outlets with sockets and then buy cig lighter adapters made with specs to match the dual current levels charging protocol used by our samsung phones.  Having sockets will allow us to use adapters with the USB ports designed to support the device to be charged.  We burned out the original USB ports when our phones tried to draw more amps than the USB sockets were made to handle.

Thanks Brian for that information...I will need 1 amp so I will do the same, using the light socket outlet and and an appropriate adapter..thanks for the response.

The 12v lighter socket will be 10 amps. The USB ports are a little different. Please see picture below
