Is top of hitch ball still 20" for a level 2022 T@B400 BD?

Just checking, looking in the forum it appears that is the value (~20") for the 400 BD at least for 2020/21.  Measured with a 2" drop drawbar on my 1500 RAM I'm at 19-1/4" to top of ball with no load. Thinking a straight drawbar may get close to level assuming 1" or so squat.

Take the 2” drop drawbar and reverse the ball, to get a 1/2” rise, this leveled our TaB400 Boondock with the Jeep Gladiator Truck, same rear end as the 1500 Ram.

@Denny16 That doesn't add up for my measurement.  If I'm at 19-1/2 to top of the 2" high ball with 2"drop, reversing adds back the 2" plus the 1/2" rise. Then the 2" high ball adds 2" when installed on the drawbar.  The total height now to top of ball is 19-1/2+2"+1/2"+2"= 24" to top of ball. The truck won't squat 4" with 300lbs on the tongue.

I'm thinking your initial height was lower that what I have (maybe by 2-3" or so).

I think the 20" measurement is to the bottom of the ball, at the surface of the ball mount.  So I think a no drop ball mount will get you the right height.

We haul our 2021 400 boondock at about 20" top of ball height when hitched up using our Fastway Flash adjustable hitch. For us it rides smoother and if we adjust our hitch to the next notch, we are just above 21" and the camper is visibly tilted from front to back. We also load everything from the axle to the front to avoid putting too much weight in back. That 1 inch of difference affects the ride much more than I would have expected.

@subkron, you are probably right, the Gladiator is a little lower than your Ram, height will also be affected by any body lift and diameter of the tires.  Based on your measurements, a straight draw bar out to work, as Horigan mentioned above.

I just measure our TaB400 Boondock and with the frame level, the top of the hitch is about 21.5”, which is what the top of the ball is mounted to the Gladiator with the 1/2” rise.  Draw bars are not expensive, take both a straight and the 2” drop/1/2” rise draw bars with you, and a 2” ball.  Then you have both bases covered.  Return the one you do not end up using.

Thanks to all. I already have a 2"drop drawbar with a std 2" ball (which is where I got the 19-1/2" top of ball measurement). I ordered a 2" ball with an integrated 2" rise for $19 and change. I'll report back when I get this all setup.
