Look What I Found

I’ve been trying to do some parasitic battery drain testing, and look what I found. Apparently when my solar panel installer reused the existing holes for the solar cables, they created a situation where this delicate thermostat cable was damaged where it was running to the Alde system.
It is amazing that I noticed. This eventually would have caused a catastrophic failure. In general, the wiring is very tightly strapped in with cable ties. This can be a double-edged sword because if it does start to move a tiny bit, it can cause abrasions on the wiring.
My fix isn’t elegant, but I think it’s fairly robust. After repairing the two damaged wires with crimped butt connectors, I wrapped it in electrical tape to keep it from snagging.

The first photo doesn't show where that cable was rubbing against something. Do you have a photo of the location of the actual rubbing point?2016 Outback 320

(I realized that the first pic in the group above was probably impossible to figure out because it was sideways. )
In the picture below, I have marked two thick black solar cables with red. Then I put a purple circle around the spot with arrows pointing to the spot where the thermostat cable was pinched and chafing. It really wasn’t that badly pinched.
