I am totally bummed. Bought a '15 Subaru Forester in April '14 before we bought our T@b this spring. Assured by car and trailer dealer we would be fine towing...NOT! Car is under rated. So now to either try and find another TV without breaking the bank or glamp in the yard until we can afford to trade. Have taken it camping locally three times before this discovery but leary of doing any more. Oh bother! Things will work out. Like that saying about lemons and lemonade!
Yeah, they revised the weight for the Forester in 2014 model. They switched the platform from legacy to impreza system. Depending on which engine you got, they seem similar to old engine type. I would note that the towing capacity is 3,000 pounds. Given the T@B weights, you are pretty close to their US stated tow capacity. I had a 2012 forester and it was a bit anemic but worked for my tab for 20K towing over a couple of years. I did switch to an escape because the towing capacity and power were significantly better with the newer vehicle, but I've been putting 10K on the tab annually.
It's always a good idea BEFORE you by a vehicle to look in the owners manual to see how much weight the vehicle will tow. That way there will be no surprises.
This and other similar threads stating that several owners discovered their vehicle would not properly tow their new T@B serves as a good reminder. No matter what your salesman at the car dealership says, make sure you check an owners manual before believing that your tow vehicle is rated sufficiently to pull a T@B.
Or you can just go to the Little Guy web site and down load Trailer Life's trailer towing guide. It is a good source of info. Doesn't have small cars listed though.
