Yet Another Battery Question…Charging Ambient Temps

Another question came up as I’m planning on adding two 100ah LiTime batteries to our 2021 400. High ambient temps and charging…

So 122 degrees is the max lithium batteries can live in and be charged safely. Right now it’s 96 outside and my thermostat in the cabin of the 400 is 114. My guess is it could theoretically hit 122 in that battery compartment.

Should I install a thermostat on the victron smart shunt? That way I can set it to stop charging at high temps? I forget if the shunt controls that or the solar controller.

Anyway, just want to get this right before I commit.

I believe the BMS in LiTime batteries have high-temp charging protection, so you may already be protected.  But don’t take my word for it - it would certainly be worth checking with LiTime to make sure.

@WayneW Thanks for pointing that out. I went back and looked and it says the following about the BMS:

    “over-charging, over-discharging, over-current, over-temperature, and short-circuit protection”

I assume the over-temp protection is what I’m after?
