PSA--if you are trying to get information on parts from Nucamp

This is my story:   Last Thursday/Friday I contacted PrincessCraft to get information and pricing on a new window shade unit for my 2017-2018 Tab 400--specifically the back "stargazer" window shade/bug screen unit.   Since that time the young lady at PrincessCraft has had to go back and forth repeatedly with Nucamp.  First, they asked for description of part--which I had given the very first time I contacted PrincessCraft and they were sent the information.  Then they came back and asked for my Vin #, which was also part of the information I provided the first time.  Then they asked for Photos and Measurements--which I provided.  Then they came back with "we have the shade but will not promise that it will fit your unit because the newer units now have a different shade".

So I then asked for them to provide measurements and a photo of what they were quoting so I could make sure we were talking about the correct window.  In the meantime, poor Ashley is e-mailing them every day requesting updates on my information request as well as other possible customers requests.

Today--they responded with "we only have one window shade unit, so that is all we have".   Being now sick and tired of the back and forth run-around and not getting an answer, I e-mailed Nucamp directly and asked what I needed to do or who I needed to talk to for measurements/photos because THEY were the ones that said they "wouldn't promise it would fit my trailer".

They actually expect people to even consider forking over a ridiculous amount of money for a specialized window shade and just HOPE that it might fit??

This has been a real eye opening experience and sadly does not make Nucamp look like a company that I would wish to continue to do business with in the future.

YMMV  and hope anyone else out there trying to procure a part or even get solid information can get what you are looking for out of Nucamp.

I am not sure they have the best record keeping. You would think a VIN would have a specific list of all of the parts used? When I wanted a fan cover, I called them to verify what kind of fan I had - they said it was a 2250, so I looked it up on line before i ordered the cover, and what I saw did not look like my fan. Went over to storage and took a look and saw it was a 1450.

They reserve the right to exchange option brands.  If they run out of a certain device, they may substitute.

As I stated above—None of my issue have anything to do with whether they changed options or parts.  It has to do with the runaround I got when trying to get a confirmation with what part they were going to send me if I decided to purchase a window shade replacement and whether it would fit my year trailer.  I asked repeatedly for a photo & measurements & they spent more time giving me the runaround than just providing me what I asked for which was a totally reasonable request given the ridiculous cost of said window shade.

@lkc001 - may I suggest finding a dealer that may know how to get better answers:  Missouri Teardrop Trailers has a very good reputation.

@gkreitzburg probably nailed it in that most RV makers aren’t the best about keeping track of part numbers from year to year. I had some cracking happening to the upper white cubby pieces and the trim that hides the dinette light on a 400. While they were great sending out the parts only half of them fit because they sent out newer pieces that only fit the 2022+ up models. Let’s just say I’m glad none of them make automobiles.

That’s no joke!!  I would laugh but right now I don’t find them amusing.

UPDATE—I  FINALLY got a response directly from Nucamp after my complaint email.  They actually managed to send a photo AND measurements of their “new” window/shade unit that they said may not fit my trailer.  Guess what?? It is the EXACT same size.   So your guess is as good as mine as to whether it is really the “old” shade that I have or a new model.

They have also been asking Ashlee at PrincessCraft for a PO# so they can place my order.  Second time they asked even before they gave me info I requested.

I will have to come up with some other DIY solution because at $537 + $74 shipping they can keep their window shade.   The window shade is more pricey than an actual replacement window.

Now that you know what part to get, try Missouri Teardrop Trailers again.  Some dealerships have crazy markups which may be inflating the price.

And Dana at Missouri Teardrop is no nonsense. He is so reasonable and helpful. He is a dude in the country with one employee, a pole barn, gravel lot, great prices, and fantastic personality. No flashy showroom to pay for. He is sort of the go-to for funneling parts out of NuCamp it seems. 660-909-3553

Princess Craft is pretty good about the parts. I haven't noticed any marking up of orders.

I'm having similar issues with other NuCamp problems, ie, run around, failing to do what the promised, etc.. NuCamp doesn't appear to be the company they were.

I completely agree about changes with customer service & not for the better.  I have no idea what PrincessCraft markup is on special orders for parts— I just got quoted for the total + shipping — both the price for the window shade & shipping was ridiculous.

We’ve purchased two Tab 400’s and numerous parts + service from Princesscraft and have always found them to be competitively priced with other dealers including ones mentioned in this thread. Their service and parts department have been nothing but a pleasure to work with.

I feel that NuCamp has a very Good Quality Products on the market compared to other RV products.  But I must say that trying to deal with them directly in their service dept etc. has a lot to be desired.  You call them and can never talk to any one.  The only person you actually get to talk to is the telephone operator who only transfer you to a voice mail.  No-one ever answers and talks to you. Must leave a message,  only for the voice mail tells you to email them and send pictures!   Very little human contact,  all email and or text.  And slow responding back!  I’m Sorry to say that Service and Communication needs Improvement!  I hope NuCamp sees this and seriously considers how they handle communication and service and makes some improvements that is equal to the quality of their product line.
